Enniskerry <> Laragh & N11

Powerscourt, a 15,000h Estate, Gardens, Shop & Waterfall; German War Cemetery; Kippure Corrie lakes; Military Road; Laragh; Glendalough; Devil's Glen; Glen of the Downs Oak Wood & Nature Reserve.

Enniskerry lies 17k south of Dublin and is approached up a twisty road valley from the N11 or from the M50 and R117. Picturesque town deep in Dargle River valley. Powerscourt Estate gate is 1 km south of town (charge to enter estate).

Head west to Glencree along a narrow well surfaced road. A Hostel with limited camping is at base of Knockree Hill. At valley head lies a 2nd World War German Cemetery , also a hostel in the "Peace & Reconciliation Centre", an old barracks.

Fork left onto Military Road R115 (a narrow road with irregular paved surface bounded by peat ditches), views across open bog towards Kippure Mtn,, walk on foot to the Kippure Corrie Lakes or ascent to TV mast 757m private road - don't get locked in). Spectacular waterfall after rain, at head of Glenmacnass River valley. Divert in Laragh onto R115 to Glendalough (good 3*** Hotel.

From Laragh return on Dublin road to Annamoe. Right fork after river bridge in village across farmland. Left turn for Tigliin Adventure Centre & Hostel Tel: (353) (404) 40189. Next left road to Glanmore Castle & access by foot to Devil's Glen. Views to coast. Continue on R763 to Ashford and join N11 Dublin/Wexford, a north/south dual-carriage in wooded valleys and high ground.
